Radio 1’s Biggest Weekend Swansea

On the 26th of May, 2017, me and 3 of my friends attended Swansea’s Biggest Weekend arranged by Radio 1. I had managed to get the tickets a few months ago after seeing the original lineup and being interested on going on the Saturday because of Ed Sheeran headlining. As time went on and loads of new artists got added, I now really regret not also getting to tickets to the Sunday because I’d have loved to have seen Shawn Mendes, Camilla Cabello and many others, however, the Saturday lineup was still amazing and I was so happy when Sam Smith got added as he is incredible!

Within the post, I thought I’d give a general outline of the day including how I did my makeup, what I wore and what me and my friends thought of all of the performances as I thought it may be interesting if you are thinking of going to a similar festival.

I hadn’t decided on the makeup that I wanted to use until the day because normally, if I plan something then it goes wrong. On the day, I decided to go for a glowy and bronzed look which was not too over-the-top. I had considered using glitter on my face but because I had never done it before I decided against it. For my primer, I used the Nivea Post Shave Balm, foundation was my trusty Body Shop Matte Clay, concealer was the Collection Lasting Perfection and the Wet N Wild Photofocus, powder was the Rimmel Stay Matte, for my eye shadow I used my Tatrlette In Bloom palette, I set my brows with a clear gel from Rimmel and finally, my mascara was the Benefit Lash Sensational, this was then all set with the Urban Decay All Nighter spray. I hadn’t applied my lipstick in the image below as I took it with me but it was the Revolution lipstick in Chauffeur.

For my eye shadow, I went with a very brown, smoky look and then added a gold glitter on to the inner corner to make it more fitting for the festival. The Tartlette In Bloom contains many brown and pinky toned shades so I mixed all of them together and applied a small amount underneath my eyes. As for my hair, I simply curled it because it was forecast to rain and I have naturally curly hair so it would have gone curly anyway!

For my outfit, I chose a play-suit which I got a few months ago in H&M for £12.99. It was quite low at the front and tied up at the back but it was very comfortable and summery which was the general theme of what most people were wearing. I also decided to go with wearing black trainers because of the forecast, I expected it to be very muddy but because it didn’t rain too much, it wasn’t that bad but I was still comfortable which was good. My friends also wore similar summer outfits including culottes and floral patterned shorts, so if you are in need of some inspiration, you can see all of  our outfits below.

Of course we got a classic photo bomber in the background haha!!

As soon as we arrived to Singleton Park (the venue), we went straight the the main stage as we expected artists to start playing at 11am, however, when we arrived, it was already packed of massive crowds waiting to see Ed Sheeran so we got as close as we could and listened to his 50 minute performance. He was amazing and I’m so glad I got to see a snippet of what I can expect from his concert in a few weeks. His support act,  Anne Marie also performed and she was really good, I loved hearing her newer songs and was shocked at how incredible her voice was live! Another of the best performances was Jess Glynne, she was incredible live and you could tell how much the crowd singing along meant to her, her backup singers/dancers also really added to her performance and the whole atmosphere of her set was so upbeat. Another of my favourite performances was George Ezra, I had heard a few of his songs prior to seeing him live and after loving his performance, I have been listening to some of his others which are also great.

Finally, the best performance of the whole night had to be Sam Smith, me and my friends managed to get quite close and could see him really well, his set was amazing and everyone knew every single word (me and one of my friends may have got a little bit emotional during his performance haha). He came across so genuine and happy when on stage, he even took the time to go around all of his band and singers behind him to give them the praise that they deserve which only George Ezra also did. Overall, his performance was unforgettable and I hope that I get to see him live again in the future.

The whole experience of Big Weekend was amazing and I’ll cherish the memories for a long time. Me and my friends are now desperate to go again of it ever comes near us in the future, so if you get the chance, you should definitely go.

  1. I saw Sam Smith in Newcastle a couple of weeks ago and he is incredible live. I saw Jess Glynne last year and she was unreal live – blew me away actually. I’m going to see Ed Sheeran in two weeks so really looking forward to it. I haven’t been to a Big Weekend before but you get to see loads of acts so seems worth it if you can get tickets.

    1. Wow! You’re so lucky to have seen them all at individual concerts, I’d love to be able to do that😊 it was definitely worth it and tickets were only £22.50 to see all of those amazing people xx
