University List – the essentials to be packed

I’d like to think that I am coming to the point in my university shopping where I have pretty much bought everything that I needed. I am lucky enough to have an unconditional offer so I have been able to start my shopping early. As I have been shopping, there have been many things along the way that I had completely forgotten about so I thought that it may be useful to share all of the essential items incase any fellow students starting in September need them!

I thought that the best way to lay out this blog post would be to go room by room. I have got a standard room with an en-suite bathroom and will have a few of my own cupboards in the kitchen.

Bedroom Essentials

  1. Bedding (bed sheets, pillow cases, mattress cover/protector)
  2. Cushions
  3. A bin
  4. Containers for storage
  5. Hangers for the wardrobe
  6. Door hanger – to hang jackets/coats on
  7. Peg holder (to hang up washing)
  8. An airer (also known as a clothes horse) – this is an essential to me so that I will be saving on tumble drying
  9. A laundry bag / basket
  10. Pyjamas
  11. Underwear
  12. Socks
  13. Shoes
  14. Jewellery
  15. Plants (obviously not essential, but these little details make it feel a bit more like home)
  16. Cushions
  17. Reed diffusers (the next best thing to candles)
  18. Makeup and brushes
  19. Room decor to make it cozy
  20. A rug (not everyone will need one of these and this also isn’t essential but the flooring in my room is wooden so I bought a small one)
  21. A lamp
  22. An extension lead

Bathroom Essentials

  1. Bathroom bin
  2. Bathroom storage bins
  3. Toilet brush
  4. Toilet roll
  5. A bath mat for the floor
  6. Towels
  7. Flannels
  8. Body wash, shampoo, conditioner
  9. Cleaning products for the bathroom

Kitchen Essentials

  1. Cutlery (knifes, forks, spoons, tea spoons)
  2. Baking trays (small and large)
  3. A pizza tray
  4. Tupperware
  5. Sandwich bags and clips
  6. Potato peeler
  7. Tin opener
  8. Pizza cutter
  9. Cheese slice
  10. Spatula
  11. Cork screw
  12. Scissors
  13. Masher
  14. Wooden spoons / spatula
  15. Sponges
  16. Washing up liquid
  17. Culinder
  18. Tea towels
  19. Mugs
  20. Shot glasses (obviously a freshers essential)
  21. Glasses
  22. Weighing scales
  23. Mixing bowl
  24. Pots and pans
  25. An egg cup
  26. I have also bought some canned foods and dry foods such as pasta and spaghetti to take so that not everything has got to be bought on the day

Some other random objects that I have bought ready to go include:

  1. A lint roller
  2. Blutack
  3. A first aid kit (which can be made exactly how you need – this will also be an essential during freshers week)
  4. An egg pan

There might be a few more things that I have forgotten to mention, if so, let me know in the comments. Obviously I have never been to uni or moved out before so I am being overly cautious and packing things that I might not specifically need. Hopefully this list has been helpful rather than making you stressed out as many of my friends have told me that my amount of preparation is stressing them out haha.

Thank you so much for reading! Hopefully there will be a few more university themed posts before I move in in September. If you’d like to follow me on Instagram or Twitter, then you can find me at @bethxkate.
